The joint meeting of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu in Telangana was successful. They were able to make their parties presence felt among the voters. They have also succeeded in hitting at the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi and its failures, besides the TRS secret pact with the Bharatiya Janata Party and prime minister Narendra Modi.
In a way, this campaign which started at Khammam and concluded in Hyderabad on the first day of the two-day tour was, to some extent, successful. The Congress, leading partner of the grand alliance, or the Peoples’ Front as they call, is now jubilant over its success. Even the Telangana Jana Samithi of Prof. Kodandaram and the CPI, the two minor partners, too are happy the way the campaign was conducted.
The alliance finds the combination of Rahul Gandhi and Chandrababu Naidu as successful arrangement. They find themselves on the edge over the TRS and are confident of wresting power this time. If the alliance wins, no doubt Chandrababu Naidu would emerge strong in the two Telugu States and also at the national level. The BJP is already admitting its defeat as its presence is not felt beyond Hyderabad. So, the defeat of BJP here is not a big issue for Narendra Modi-Amit Shah leadership. However, Chandrababu will certainly stake claim for the results, if it is in favour of the alliance partners.
However, the big question now is, are the voters too feeling the same that they were captured by the Rahul-Chandrababu combination as the TDP-Congress leaders claim? If the meeting were successful, will they reflect in the voting?
