The New Year had opened a new idea in Andhra Pradesh politics with chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, once again going soft on Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and even offering olive branch to his former friend.
Chandrababu Naidu invited Pawan Kalyan to join him in his fight for the State against the Central government. He made this statement giving scope for political circles to speculate the possible alliance between the Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena in the next round of elections. The two parties fought the battle together along with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2014 elections. Though the Jana Sena did not contest, it had extended support to both the TDP and BJP and had played key role in the victory of TDP in the State.
However, Jana Sena distanced from both the TDP and BJP in 2017 blaming them for not fulfilling the promise of special category status to the State. Pawan Kalyan blamed both TDP and BJP for denial of the special category status and declared that his party would contest the 2019 elections and would not support either of them. He then started criticising the TDP leaders and mostly targeting Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh and Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar. The TDP leaders too returned the criticism on him for all these days.
Now, in a surprise gesture, Chandrababu Naidu welcomed Jana Sena chief to align with him in the fight against the Centre and develop the State. When asked to comment on YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy’s allegation that both Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan were friends and would contest the next elections in alliance, the TDP chief quipped “What is his (Jagan) problem if we contest together?”
The statement attributes Chandrababu Naidu’s renewed attempts to align with the Jana Sena fearing rout in his vote bank and with an eye on the Kapu votes. Interestingly, Jaganmohan Reddy had been seeing this alliance between the two leaders from the beginning and he never took Jana Sena as a serious party fighting against the TDP. His allegation or suspicion that Naidu and Pawan are friends is proved once again.
However, it is now the turn of Pawan Kalyan to react to the invitation from Chandrababu Naidu. Will he accepts the invitation or rejects it?
