Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu wrote a four-page hard-hitting letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi questioning the Central government’s prerogative on taking over the case of attack on Opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam airport on October 25. He found fault with the Central government for giving the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from the State police, which Chandrababu Naidu termed as intrusion of the Centre into the State’s domain.
Chandrababu Naidu heckled the whole incident lowering his position and dignity hours after it happened in Visakhapatnam. He went on record attributing the incident to Jaganmohan Reddy himself and termed it as a drama to win peoples’ sympathy. The State DGP too had made similar comments minutes before the chief minister went on record.
The chief minister did not condemn it. Neither owned the responsibility for the attack on the Leader of the Opposition. This had irked the Opposition YSR Congress ranks to seek Central probe. On one hand, Chandrababu Naidu said that the security at the airport was not the responsibility of the State and it comes under the Central government and thus attributed a political conspiracy theory by the Central government against his government. And now, he says that the security and the law and order are the responsibilities of the State government and thus the State has its role to investigate into the case.
On one hand he says that the incident is not of a serious crime or has any impact on the safety and security of the civil aviation. And on the other hand, he says the State government can investigate into the case. By playing down and heckling the incident, what guarantee that the chief minister is giving to the victim on justice done to him?
However, Chandrababu Naidu in his letter asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the NIA from the case and allow the State government to do its job. He further alleged that the Prime Minister was trying to help his blue eyed boys who have several criminal and financial cases against them.
Will the Modi government allow Chandrababu Naidu to take over the case and close it as a simple and insignificant incident as the DGP and the Chief Minister claim?
