In January and February, two biopics on two great leaders hit the silver screen. The first to come before the audience worldwide on January 9 was the NTR Kathanayakudu, a biopic on Telugu people’s favourite actor Nandamuri Tarakarama Rao. With theatrical business of Rs.70 crore Kathanayakudu released with huge expectations and the film got some positive talk. This was enough to trigger reports that NTR Kathanayakudu will definitely break the records. However, finally NTR buyers suffered loss of several crores. The reason was director Krish showing NTR’s acting career as clean and free from any problems. The lack of emotions in the film became a big cause for the decline in its collections. Several scenes were heart touching but lack of emotions dealt a blow to Kathanayakudu.
Now in February another biopic Yatra was released worldwide. The film is biopic of another great leader Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who was in the heart of Telugu people. Yatra which did theatrical business of Rs.14 crore worldwide was released amid good expectations. In the very first show Yatra garnered positive talk. It is said that the film’s highlight is the acting of Mammotty who played the role of YSR. The film touched the people’s heart and with full emotions it got positive talk. Taking only a part of Rajasekhara Reddy’s life that is his padyatra, director Mahi made it into a powerful story and produced the movie. Mammotty’s acting, cinematography, strong emotions lifted the film to success. The emotions missing in NTR Kathanayakudu were seen in full flow in Yatra. This is what audiences are saying after comparing the two movies.
