The elections in the State are increasing the political temperature with leaders taking on each other to win the voters. The heat was more on Tuesday,Wednesday with film actor and former MP, M Mohan Babu, returning to active politics and joining the YSR Congress. Mohan Babu, was one of the close aides of late N T Rama Rao, who launched the Telugu Desam Party in 1982, along with others.
After his retirement from Rajya Sabha, Mohan Babu started an educational institution at Tirupati, which is growing year after the year. The institution, Sree Vidya Niketan, is one of the best educational institutions in the State, particularly in the Rayalaseema region. His family had dedicated its time for this institution where thousands of students are studying. The actor-turned-educationist says that the State government has to pay over Rs 20 crore to the institution in the fee reimbursement scheme. He said he had written several letters to the State government to clear the dues which were pending for the past four years.
As the government failed to clear the dues, he launched a protest along with the students where he hinted at coming back to active politics. As said, the actor had joined the YSR Congress in the presence of Jaganmohan Reddy. He said that he would work for the party’s victory in the election, as he wanted a welfare government under the leadership of Jaganmohan Reddy. The fee reimbursement scheme was launched by Jaganmohan Reddy’s father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, which had helped thousands of students from the weaker sections to join the institutions of higher education for courses like engineering and medicine.
However, the scheme was diluted by the successive governments, including the Congress governments led by K Rosaiah and N Kirankumar Reddy. The actor says that Chandrababu Naidu government had diverted the funds from the fee reimbursement account to the poll promises of the TDP chief. While he is not opposed to the implementation of the Pasupu-Kunkuma scheme for women, special allowance for unemployed youth and loan waiver to the farmers, Mohan Babu sought to advise Chandrababu that fee reimbursement is equally important as education makes people self-supporting.
Mohan Babu knows the ins and outs of Chandrababu, starting from the college days and if he begins to campaign, it is for sure that political equations would change.
