Controversial film director Ram Gopal Varma had a bitter experience the other day when he visited Vijayawada. He was denied to address a press conference in the hotel he had checked in. Another hotel also offered accommodation but denied permission to hold a press conference. When he tried to address the media on the road at the NTR statue at Ajit Singh Nagar, the police prevented him there too. He was then arrested and sent to the Gannavaram airport.
The entire episode was packed with high drama as his visit was to talk about his new film, Lakshmi’s NTR, which was released all over but not in Andhra Pradesh. The ruling Telugu Desam Party had gone to the court against the release of the film in the state. Probably, the TDP had feared of negative image for theparty chief Chandrababu Naidu, who was shown in a negative role, particularly in the August 1995 Viceroy Hotel coup.
The denial of permission to RGV to hold press conference is seen as a continued conspiracy by the TDP. One wonders, including RGV himself. What prompted the police to prevent him to hold press conference in the two hotels is a matter to be explained by the police. What made the management of the two hotels in the city to deny permission and the justification of the police from arresting the director on the road needs to be explained.
Having seen all the fun in Vijayawada, one is for sure that the director would certainly go for another film on this visit. He would, no wonder, come out with a new film on the role of TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu in this episode.
He says that the TDP supremo is scared of his visit to Vijayawada leaving aside the film.
