Viral video showing a leopard moving in the night is from Bangalore University but not Bhubaneswar
A video showing a leopard in the mid of the night near a private hospital at Chandaka Reserve forest in Bhubaneswar went viral on social media. The video gained more viewership as it was shared widely with each passing day on WhatsApp and other SM platforms. A few regional media and digital creators also web cast it in their social media pages. As the hospital is very close to Chandaka Reserve forest, people easily believed in the video.
Fact Check:
After careful observation of different media reports, we found that the claim is False. The video of the leopard was related to spotting the animal near Bangalore University in January 2023.
Prashant Sahu, a senior IT expert also shared the same video with a caption: “It’s a Fake Video do not Forward such type of fake Video.”
During conversation with our Fact Checker, team he said: “Local people may panic because of our foolishness. Without having a proper evidence, we should not forward such types of viral videos.”
He said that he also received the same video on his WhatsApp. If there a leopard found in Bhubaneswar, it must be telecast in news channels.
As reported in NDTV , the University of Bangalore issued a circular on Jan 13, 2023 warning its staff and students living on the campus to restrict their movement at night due to the sighting of a leopard on the campus. The channel also mentioned that even they could not independently verify the video.
"The same video was published by Youtube channel of Times now, with the title " A Leopard Reportedly Spotted At Bangalore University, Students Cautioned " on Jan 13, 2023.
Conclusion: Based on the available evidence, it is clear that the leopard found near Utkal Hospital is misleading. As per the Various Media Report it Spotted near Bangalore University in January 2023.
