Fact Check: Images showing Sharmila with Jagan and his family are not recent, not connected with Sharmila inviting him to her son's wedding

YS Sharmila, the founder of the YSR Telangana party, has joined the Congress party. She is the younger sister of Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Due to political differences with her brother, she launched her political outfit in Telangana in 2021. However, in November 2023, she abstained from participating in the Telangana Assembly elections. Now, she has joined the Congress in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi.
Her son, who is pursuing a master's in the USA, is all set to get married. On Twitter, Sharmila announced that the engagement ceremony would be held on January 18, 2024 and that the marriage would be performed on February 17, 2024. She also went to Vijayawada to invite her brother YS Jaganmohan Reddy to the marriage.
In this context, a picture of Sharmila and her husband, along with her brother YS Jaganmohan Reddy and his wife and their mother, is being shared on social media with the caption “YS Sharmila @realyssharmila Invited her brother YS Jagan @ysjagan for her son's wedding and given the first invitation card.
Another user shared the image with the caption “Family bonds are strong! Even if INDIA alliance forms govt in 2024 in New Delhi, Jagan Reddy would be safe! Advance landing of Sharmila in INDIA alliance !”
Fact Check:
The claim is False. The image is from the year 2019.
When we saw the comments on one of the viral posts, we found one stating that the image is from the year 2019. Taking the cue, we searched the image using Google reverse image search and found that the image has been online since 2019 and has no relation with YS Sharmila visiting her brother to invite him to her son’s marriage.
The image was shared by an X(Twitter) account named Filter Kaapi on May 30, 2019 with the caption “One for the album. #YSJagan's sister #sharmila tweets this family pic with Jagan, Bharathi, mother Vijayamma, husband Anil.”
The image was also shared by an article published on a regional news website telugu.samayam.com in April 2021.
Several news TV channels published videos of YS Sharmila landing in Vijayawada and going to meet her brother and family to invite them to her son’s wedding. The video also states that the duo have met after 2 years and that there had been no political angle to the meeting, only personal invitations were extended.
Therefore, the viral image is an old one and has no connection with YS Sharmila’s recent visit to YS Jaganmohan Reddy's house in Tadepalli. The claim is false.
