Fact Check: Incident of breaking Ganesha Idol in a Supermarket is Not from Kerala, its from Bahrain

A video of a woman clad in burkha, vandalizing a supermarket and breaking Hindu idols that were for sale in it is going viral with a claim in Telugu, the claim is "కేరళలోని ఈ వీడియోని చూసి మీకు వీలయినంత వరకు ఫార్వార్డ్ చేయండి....ఈ రోజు మీరు మౌనంగా ఉంటే మనకే నష్టం...ఎందుకంటే 6 నెలల తర్వాత దాన్ని కొనసాగించడం వల్ల ఉపయోగం ఉండదు...", English Translation: "Watch this video from Kerala and forward as much as you can….if you are silent today it will be a loss for us…because after 6 months it will not be useful to continue…. #JaiSriRAM"
The same claim was viral in Hindi language on social media in the month of July 2022. This claim was debunked by several organisations, but yet now it is being shared in Telugu language.
Fact check:
The claim that the incident seen in the video occurred in Kerala is FALSE. Viral video shows an incident from the year 2020 and the incident occurred in Bahrain.
When the keyframes extracted from the video are searched using the Google Reverse image search, we found the news reports published in the year 2020.
According to these reports, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi a local supermarket in Juffair displayed Ganesha idols for sale. A 54-year old woman started shouting at the salesperson that it is an Islamic country and such idols should not be sold in the country. She took idols one by one and dropped them to the ground.
Bahrain's Interior Ministry has said that action has started against the woman. In a tweet, the capital police has taken legal action against a 54-year-old woman for causing damage to the shop and insulting a particular sect and its traditions
The public prosecution issued a statement that the women was charged with multiple counts of criminal damage and of insulting a religious symbol.
