Fact Check: Rahul Gandhi did not support BJP but asked people to vote for Congress

A 30- second video is circulating on social media showing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urging people to vote. In the video, Rahul states that while the INDIA and Congress party are trying to destroy the Constitution and democracy of India, the BJP and RSS are working to save it. He also urges people to support the BJP and RSS to protect democracy.

Several social media users shared the video in their post or timeline. We also found in the video, there is an overlaid text “Very important & last appeal message from Rahul Gandhi”

Fact Check: We found the claim is false, the video was edited and shared on social media. In the original video, we found Rahul Gandhi criticizing the BJP

During the reverse image search we found on 25th April 2024 , Rahul Gandhi shared the same video on his official social media accounts.

With the caption “संविधान और लोकतंत्र की रक्षा के इस चुनाव में, 'मित्र काल' से निकल कर 'हिंदुस्तानियों की सरकार' बनाने के चुनाव में... लोकतंत्र का अपना कर्तव्य निभाइए, कांग्रेस के साथ आइए, हाथ का बटन दबाइए ! जय हिंद”

In this election to protect the Constitution and democracy, come out of the 'Mitrakal' and form a 'Government of Indians'... Fulfill your democratic duty, Support Congress, and press the ‘hand’ button !  Jai Hind"

In the video, we found Rahul saying: “Namaskar, this is Rahul Gandhi. This election is an election to save democracy and principles. On one side, the BJP and RSS are trying to destroy democracy and the Constitution. On the other side, the Congress party and the I.N.D.I.A. alliance are putting in efforts to protect the Constitution and democracy. We walked on foot from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, about 4000 kilometers, and we also walked from Manipur to Maharashtra. We interacted with you, listened to what you had to say, and then created a revolutionary manifesto.

We have given five guarantees. Rahul also said that Narendra Modi made 22-25 billionaires, but we are going to create millions of millionaires among women and the youth. We will provide legal MPS guarantees for farmers and settle their loans. Labourers will receive a minimum wage of Rs 400. This is your manifesto, created by the Congress party, but it is yours. Hence, it is clear that the video has been edited & being circulated with a false claim. In the original video, Rahul Gandhi urged people to support the Congress party and spoke out against the BJP and RSS.
