Fact Check: The woman featured in the viral video is not the victim; rather, the video was recorded to advocate for justice

Doctors across the country, including those in Odisha, are staging demonstrations in accordance with the nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency medical services for 24 hours, as announced by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). In SCB, patients are experiencing significant difficulties. The radiology department is the worst affected, with the number of ultrasounds reduced from 100 to 40. As a result, patients are facing challenges and are being forced to return home without treatment.

According to National Media, the victim's family has provided the names of some doctors, interns, and physicians to the CBI. The investigating agency has identified all these individuals after expressing suspicion. Additionally, it is reported that more than 10 employees, including the former principal of RG Kar Medical Center, are being interrogated.

On the other hand, as the movement of medical students in Bhubaneswar intensified, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's effigy was burned by the medical students.

Amidst this, a video has gone viral on social media, showing a woman in an injured condition.

Social media users shared the video on social media with the caption “31-year-old Lady, who was in the second year of the Post Graduate Trainee (PGT) course at RG KAR Medical College in Calcutta, West Bengal, was murdered after being raped. The Chief Minister of West Bengal is also the Minister of Home Affairs and Health. It is very reprehensible that the culprit has not been punished after such an incident, even though she is in charge as the minister.

Another user shared a screenshot of the video and wrote, "Even though the Chief Minister of West Bengal is in charge of both Home and Health Ministries, it is very reprehensible that the culprit has not been punished after such an incident! The Banerjee government has been giving frequent incentives."

Fact Check: We found the claim is Misleading, The viral video was made to protest the brutality and killing of women doctors in Kolkata.

While Reading the comments on the viral video, it is known that a user wrote that this video was made by Zeenat Rahman.

When we searched for Zeenat Rahman we found an Instagram account of her.

The profile states that Zeenat is a resident of Calcutta and a makeup artist by profession. While visiting through the profile we found on August 15, 2024 she uploaded the video with caption “SHE IS NOT M#U#IT#

I just wanted to share her mental condition through this act, I hope you all understand this without judging me. We can't even imagine how she had gone through that particular time.  May her soul rest in peace. Ameen.

In the post she also mentioned PS - Don't mislead....i just want justice nothing else #IWantJustice

One of our team members discussed this matter with Zeenat. During the conversation, she confirmed that she created and shared the video herself. Zeenat expressed her deep concern, stating, "What happened in Kolkata is truly tragic. Any girl, anywhere—not just in Kolkata—would be shocked to hear this news. How could I stay silent? She might be someone's daughter, someone's sister. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for them. I felt their pain deeply, and that compelled me to make this video because I couldn’t remain indifferent."

She further noted the unfortunate reality that some individuals have shared this video on social media with misleading captions, claiming that the girl in the video is the victim. Some digital creators have even uploaded the video on their platforms with misleading titles, purely to gain more views and likes. "Think about it—who could make a video in such a dire situation ? Who would focus on creating content rather than saving their own life? My intentions were never malicious; I simply wanted to amplify the victim's voice. This video is just a small contribution to the ongoing fight for swift justice for the victims."

Hence, we found the claim is Misleading. The woman in the viral video is not the victim; the video was created as a means to advocate for justice on the victim’s behalf.
