One-year-old video from ISS shared as footage of the earth from space captured by Chandrayaan-3

With the Chandrayaan-3 mission almost reaching its due date for a soft landing attempt on the moon, a video is being shared widely with the claim that it is showing the footage captured by the spacecraft.

showing a view of the earth from space is being shared on social media as footage captured by Chandrayaan-3.

FACT CHECK:

Upon first observation, we noticed the video was credited to "Earth Science and Remote Sensing Unit of NASA”. The name "Som ET" was also displayed in the credits.

Using the name as a hint, we searched online and found the same video shared on Som ET's social media platforms earlier this year. The video's description states that the audio used in the video was taken from NASA's Van Allen Probes audio recordings. The post tagged the image code (SS067-E-357091-357756) of the picture taken from NASA.

We traced the original video using the image code and were led to NASA's website. According to NASA, these photos were captured on September 11, 2022, using a Nikon D5 digital camera from the International Space Station. The photos were then used to create a time lapse video as seen in viral footage.

The viral video was created using a time lapse video of previous footage captured along and mixed with the Van Allen Probes audio.

Evidently, an old video is being wrongly shared with a claim that it shows footage of earth from space captured by Chandrayaan-3
