Fact Check: Video claiming to show huge crowd gathered for Modi’s rally in Jalore is not recent
Ahead of the 2024 general elections, several videos with false claims are shared on different social media platforms. A 37-sec video is viral on the internet showing a massive crowd in an open space. As people are wearing white kurtas and pagdi, it seems like the visual is from Rajasthan.
Several social media users shared the same video with the claim that a huge crowd gathered at Narendra Modi’s rally in Jalore recently.
Users shared the video with the caption: “Today there is a rally of Modiji in Rajasthan's Jalore at 2 PM and Banswara at 4 PM. This is a visual before the rally. These visuals may give shivers to Congress, 10 lakh people may attend this rally”.
Fact Check: The claim is false, this visual is at least five years old and it is not related to Narendra Modi’s recent rally in Rajasthan.
During the Google reverse image search, we found this video is already on internet since 2019. A YouTube user SVGCSO uploaded the same video in his YouTube channel. In the description, he also mentioned रामसीन (जालोर) कांग्रेस मीटिंग (Date 25/04/2019) ( Ramshin, Jalore Congress Meeting )
When we searched the keywords Congress rally in Jalore- 2019 we found this video was uploaded on the official Instagram account of the Indian National Congress on April 27, 2019 with a caption: “It was a sight to behold as lakhs of people came to see and listen to Congress president Rahul Gandhi at the mega rally at Jalore, Rajasthan”
On further investigation, we found ML Bishnoi Chadi, a facebook user, also uploaded the same video on April 25, 2019, on his facebook account. With the video, he mentioned: “ये विडियो कही ओर का नही हमारे राजस्थान में जालोर जिल्ले के रामसीन में Rahul Gandhi व Ashok Gehlot व Sachin Pilot की जालोर के लोकसभा कांग्रेस प्रत्याक्षी की जनसभा में उमड़ा जनसैलाब है” ।
When translated to English, it reads: “This video is from Rajasthan in Ramsin of Jalore district, where Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot were present. There is a huge crowd in the public meeting of Jalore Lok Sabha Congress candidate". Vaibabhav Gehlot is candidate for Lok Sabha, he is the son of former Rajasthan Chief Minister & Senior Congress Leader Ashok Gehlot.
Hence, we found the claim is false. The video has been on the internet since 2019. Hence, it is not related to Modi’s recent visit to Rajasthan. As per the social media users, it was captured during the Congress rally in Rajasthan’s Jalore in 2019.
