Video showing Kharge hitting back at a gathering for Modi chants is Misleading
A video of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashing out at a gathering for chanting "Modi" slogans at him is viral on social media. In the video, Kharge can be seen shouting at a gathering and saying, "Sit silently, if you don’t want to listen, get out. Don’t talk like that. Don’t you see a leader of the All India Congress Committee speaking? You are saying whatever is coming to your mouth. Listen if you want to, otherwise move on your way.”
Netizens claim Kharge lashed out at the gathering after being instigated by Modi chants.
FACT CHECK:
The extended version of the same clip was uploaded by India Today, Times Now and ANI News on YouTube. The footage was taken from a campaign rally during the recently held Telangana Assembly Elections 2023. After carefully analyzing the video, no instances of "Modi chants'' could be found. The audio was added onto the video to pass false claims of Kharge lashing out at the gathering after being instigated by the Modi chants.
Media outlets such as News 18 and India Today reported Kharge lost his cool when a crowd disturbed his flow of thoughts while he was listing out the poll promises of his party. Although there was no specific mention of the disturbance caused, it is clear that it was not a “Modi chant”.
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote in support of how Kharge appears to be disrespected by his own party workers, who seem to ignore his authority and humiliate him at all public meetings.
.
The original audio of the "Modi Chanting" is from when the then Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot stopped his convoy to interact with a gathering of young people after attending an event at the municipal council.
Evidently, it is clear that the viral video of Kharge lashing out at the gathering after being instigated by Modi chants is misleading. Though Kharge did lash out at the gathering, it was not instigated due to the Modi chants.
Thus, the claim is misleading.
Update: The conclusion was mistakenly published as False in the Claim review instead of Misleading. Corrected
