An image of a padlocked grave with a green-coloured grill door is going viral with a claim that the parents of young deceased girls in Pakistan are safeguarding their graves due to increased cases of necrophilia. This image went viral with the claim and was also published by several mainstream media news websites.

Several social media users have posted this image with the claim “Graves of women in Pakistan... Locked like this to prevent "rap€" with their dead bodies... Nothing is safe..!”

Fact check:

The claim is false. The image of the padlocked grave is not from Pakistan, it is from Hyderabad, India.

When we performed a reverse image search of the image, we found a few tweets which mentioned that the image is from a cemetery in Hyderabad.

The tweet by @Gabbar0099 shared several photographs of the cemetery in Hyderabad with the caption ‘Update: This grave is actually from Hyderabad, India’.

We also found a tweet by @abhinav_gupta25, which mentions ‘Here is the video of the cemetery in front of Masjid E Salar Mulk in Darab Jung Colony in the Madannapet area of Hyderabad. A locked graveyard of the cemetery was in the news last week.’

The person seen in the video states that the grave was of his friend’s mother who passed away a year ago.

Here is another video by Deccan 24 Facebook profile, which confirms that the grave is in Madannapet area of Hyderabad. The video states that the grave has been grilled to prevent garbage from being thrown on it.

When we searched for Jamiya Masjid Salar ul Mulk on Google, we found similar images posted.

 

When searched for Jamiya Masjid Salar ul Mulk on Google Earth, we could find the location of the graveyard beside the Masjid in Madannapet area of Hyderabad.

 

Therefore, the viral image of a padlocked grave is from Hyderabad and not from Pakistan.
