Fact Check: Viral image showing bride wearing a bikini for her wedding is AI generated

Traiditional bridal attire in the Indian weddings is a saree or traditional lehenga rich in colour and adorned with zari threads and crystals. The bride also wears traditional jewellery from head to toe, with henna on her hands and feet.
Meanwhile, an image of a bride exchanging garlands with the groom in a bikini and a viel is going viral on the internet with the claim that a bride got married in a Banarasi bikini during her marriage ceremony, instead of lehenga choli or a saree.
Some users just shared the image with the caption “Lucknow bride breaks stereotype by wearing Banarasi bikini in marriage ceremony. Internet split into two halves.”

Factcheck:
The claim is False. The image in circulation is AI generated.
When we searched the image using Google reverse image search, we found some posts on Reddit.
The post was published by a subreddit dedicated to showcase AI-generated artwork related to desi culture. From traditional to contemporary, the community welcomes all forms of desi inspired art created using artificial intelligence.
In these reddit posts, we found a few other similar images with the brides wearing bikinis and the groom wearing Salwar.
When we checked the image using Truemedia, AI detection tool, we found that there is substantial evidence that the image is AI generated. The reverse image search analysis and Universal Fake detector analysis features of this tool found substantial evidence that the image is a synthetic image. The summary of the analysis states that the image seems to show a wedding ceremony with the bride dressed in a swimsuit or undergarments, which is atypical for such an occasion. AI-generated content or digitally manipulated images might clude unusual attire or improbable scenarios to generate attention or humor. The contrast between the expected attire for a traditional ceremony and what is shown indicates manipulation. Additionally, discrepancies in shadows, lighting, or other visual artifacts may suggest digital manipulation.
We also analysed the image using another AI detection tool named Hive moderation, we found that there is 86% probability of the image being AI generated.
Hence, the image showing an Indian bride dressed in bikini with a veil and other Indian accessories like bangles and henna exchanging garlands during a wedding ceremony is not real, it is AI generated. The claim is False.
