There are 17 operational rapid transit systems, which are popularly called as ‘Metro’, in 17 cities across India. Delhi Metro is the largest of all these services. The metro trains have helped reduce the traffic congestion in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, etc. People are increasingly preferring metros, especially women, as they are convenient and reduce the travel time in their daily commute. Almost all the metro train services have special ladies’ coaches exclusively for the women traveling in the metros. This step was taken to enhance the safety and comfort of the women commuters.

Women commuters are encouraged to report any instances of misbehavior or unauthorized entry into ladies' coaches via DMRC's 24x7 helpline number 155370. The DMRC reiterated that the first coach of all running metro trains is reserved exclusively for women passengers. Male passengers are advised to refrain from travelling in these reserved coaches, regardless of metro service timings.

Concerned Metro authorities keep employing flying squads, composed of personnel from the CISF and Metro Rail Police, to conduct surprise checks across all lines to ensure compliance and maintain the safety and comfort of women commuters. Those violating the rule are subject to fines and also imprisonment.

Meanwhile, a video showing female cops slapping men as they come out of the metro coach is shared on social media with the claim that the video shows the surprise check.
