Fact Check: Viral video showing a woman attacked by crocodile is not real

After the ban of TikTok in India, youngsters turned to Instagram to create reels. Nowadays, people love to capture food, discover new places, and create memories through reels. Some of them perform stunts to get more likes and become popular on social media. Almost every day, there are reports of someone losing their life or causing trouble while creating reels.

To ensure safety, especially in tourist places, local authorities have put up signboards warning against creating reels or performing public stunts.

Recently, a 29-second video went viral on social media showing a crocodile attacking a woman while she was posing for photographs. Users shared it across different social media platforms with the caption, "Don't get too carried away with making reels."

Fact Check: The claim is false. This video does not depict a real incident. It is actually part of an awareness campaign by Preview Magazine.

A reverse image search revealed that the video was uploaded by Preview PH, a YouTube channel with 456K subscribers, on October 3, 2013. The video is titled “How Not to Instagram.”

In the description they also mentioned “How Not To Instagram is part of Preview Magazine's #imapreviewgirl campaign that started with our September 2013 issue. We asked our friends from the film industry to interpret what a Preview Girl means to them; it was an open brief and they could do anything they wanted. When we searched for the keyword "I'm a Preview Girl by Preview PH" on Google, we found numerous campaign videos with various social messages.

 Furthermore, we found Kidlat Award, listed this campaign video in Film Internet & Mobile Video categories.

This video was also uploaded on Instagram under three additional accounts. The same names were found in the description box, indicating they are part of the video: Models Aryn Cristobal and Chal Lontoc, and Acting Director Christine Blando.

Hence, we found the claim is false. This is not a real incident; rather, the video is part of an awareness campaign by Preview Magazine.
