Fact Check: Viral video showing movie scenes makes a false claim on new film on Ayodhya Ram Mandir

Amidst this, two different video clippings showing scenes of a movie are in circulation with the claim that the video shows the scenes from an upcoming movie on Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
The caption in Hindi goes “अयोध्या राम मंदिर युद्ध पर बनी न्यू मूवी”

The first video shows scenes involving Sunny Deol leaving the house to participate in the protests of 1990 in Ayodhya with Jai Shree Ram sloganeering.

This video is also shared with the same claim and shows the scenes of several local leaders discussing Ayodhya Ram Temple and people taking rallies in the streets with the slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’,
Fact Check:
The claim that the video shows the scenes of a new movie on Ayodhya Ram Mandir is False. The video is from a 2018 film named ‘Mohalla Assi’.
When we searched the key frames extracted from both videos, we found that one of the viral scenes was shared by a YouTube channel named Jordaar Trending Movies with the title “भगवान को तो छोड़ दो सालो | Sunny Deol Best Dialogue | Mohalla Assi”. The video clip has been shared on October 15, 2022.
When searched for the movie “Mohalla Assi” on YouTube, we found the full movie published by channel named ‘Bollywood Movies’ with the title “Mohalla Assi (Full HD Movie) – Sunny Deol II Sakshi Tanwar II Ravi Kishan II Saurabh Shukla, in July 2020. The viral visuals can be seen in various parts of the movie.
Mohalla Assi is based on Dr Kashi Nath Singh’s popular Hindi novel ‘Kashi ka Assi’ which is a satire on the commercialization of the pilgrimage city of Kashi. Its release was delayed due to non-payment of the dues by the director. The movie was released online quietly.
According to hindi.news18.com, Sunny Deol's mega flop film came in the year 2018. Not only this, it was also the most controversial film of his career.
The shooting of 'Mohalla Assi' started in January 2011 and was completed in 2015. It took 4 years to make the film. The makers spent Rs 20 crore for filming it and the trailer was released in June 2015. During this time, the film was also leaked in full HD print. In April 2016, CBFC banned the film. In December 2017, the Delhi High Court lifted the ban on the film.
Therefore, the movie scenes seen in the viral video are not from a new upcoming movie on Ayodhya Ram Mandir. It is from an old movie starring Sunny Deol called ‘Mohalla Assi’ based on a novel named ‘Kashi ka Assi’ by Dr Kashi Nath Singh.
