The reinstatement of Alok Kumar Verma as CBI director has come as a big defeat for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government at the Center. Interestingly the BJP-led government is facing defeat on issue after the issue. The BJP leaders are now passing through tough times now as it appears.
The BJP had lost the State Assembly elections and by-election to some Assembly and Parliament seats these days. Several of its key decisions have seen negative image from the other parties or the people or to say the courts. The defeat in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states is seen as the beginning of the BJP’s defeat in the 2019 general election.
Alok Verma was removed from the post on October 23 midnight. He was asked to go on leave unceremoniously. The opposition parties alleged that the Modi government was worried about Alok Verma’s move to order probe into the infamous Rafale aircrafts deal. The Congress sees huge corruption of Rs 30,000 crore in the deal where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had helped the Reliance to get into the deal. There are questions about the Prime Minister’s initiative to help Reliance even at the cost of the Public Sector Unit of HAL, which was set out of the deal.
Even if the corruption charges against the government are kept aside for the time being, the roping in of the Reliance into the deal where the Reliance has no experience in the field gives scope for the people to question the intentions of this government.
But the big question for the Narendra Modi is will he allow the CBI director to start investigation into the Rafale aircrafts deal. But on his side Alok Verma was clipped by the apex court from taking any key decisions till further orders.
