Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and her rival A V Subba Reddy were seriously warned by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to keep the differences aside and stop destroying the party in Kurnool. The two leaders have locked horns in Nandyal and Allagadda Assembly constituencies with their supporters indulging in physical fights on the streets. The squabbles have disturbed the party in the two segments, which is set to harm the Telugu Desam Party’s electoral prospects, if not corrected.
The TDP chief took two days to settle the dispute with party general secretary Varla Ramaiah holding initial peace-making efforts in the Grievance Cell office at the Chief Minister’s residence. The two leaders were told to work in tandem towards winning the next elections. However, neither of them was promised the party ticket in the next election.
“Ticket would be given to those who get positive results in the survey to be conducted ahead of the elections,” was what Chandrababu Naidu had told the two leaders. This would mean that there is no guarantee that Akhila Priya would get the ticket or is assured of it at Allagadda, the segment that her mother Sobha Nagi Reddy represented. With regard to the Nandyal segment which was represented by her father Bhuma Nagi Reddy, it is now held by Akhila Priya’s cousin Brahmananda Reddy, is expected to be re-nominated in the next election. This would mean that Akhila Priya will have no chance of coming to Nandyal, if ticket is denied at Allagadda.
Sources in the TDP said that Chandrababu Naidu is in favour of fielding Subba Reddy from Allagadda in the next elections. Subba Reddy was the trusted lieutenant of late Bhuma Nagi Reddy and enjoys greater command over the Bhuma family’s supporters.
Meanwhile, it is heard that Akhila Priya is knocking at the doors of YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy for return. She is trying to use her family connections to get close to Jagan Mohan Reddy and contest from Allagadda. Sources said that she had made a telephone call to Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother Vijayalakshmi one of these days and requested her to take up her case with Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, Vijayamma did not give any assurance to Akhila Priya.
Interestingly, Akhila Priya’s younger sister Mounika is said to be the better candidate for the TDP or YSR Congress. She is doing better these days, particularly when dealing with Subba Reddy’s issue. Her voice was heard more than Akhila Priya in settling the dispute and the TDP chief had reportedly asked Varla Ramaiah and others to make an assessment of the leadership qualities of both Akhila Priya and Mounika. If ticket has to be given to the family, the TDP leadership is tilting towards Mounika for the next election, the sources said.
