The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is jubilant with the success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in Guntur on Sunday. The BJP could mobilise good crowd for the meeting despite the ruling Telugu Desam Party creating hurdles in mobilisation.
AP BJP chief Kanna Lakshminarayana, who played crucial role in making the event a success as it also his home town, is now in cloud nine. The success of the meeting had consolidated his position in the party, against those who have been opposing him in the party. The long-standing leadership of the BJP, including leaders like Kambhampati Haribabu, Somu Veerraju, are opposed to Kanna Lakshminarayana, a former Congress leader to head the BJP in the State. The party high command had kept Kambhampati Haribabu aside to crown Kanna Lakshminarayana, who joined the party a few months ago.
All was not well for this former Congress minister as several of the party leaders opposed his elevation to the party State unit president post. He had to find his own team and build the State executive committee, to stand by him and give him strength to ascertain in the party affairs. His fight for command over the party had finally gave him the required strength.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi looked impressed with the work of Lakshminarayana in organising the meeting. Even the party national president Amith Shah too is happy with Kanna for organising bus yatra from Palasa in Srikakulam district to Kurnool district. Amith Shah was disappointed when there was no crowd at Palasa. This had given some advantage to Kanna’s critics in the BJP to speak against him.
But, the success of Narendra Modi’s meeting in Guntur had wiped out all the allegations against his leadership and had consolidated his position in the party now. The party is now planning for the second visit of Modi to the State on February 27, when the Prime Minister addresses a public meeting in Visakhapatnam.
