The Congress in Andhra Pradesh is finally falling on the feet of former Union minister M M Pallam Raju. This Kakinada leader is all set to take over the party from N Raghuveera Reddy, who had resigned from the APCC president post in support of Rahul Gandhi, who stepped down from AICC president post after the party’s debacle in the 2019 general elections. It is more than two months that the party remained headless both in the State and at the Centre.
Congress in Andhra Pradesh, or as far as AP politics are concerned, had been doing slipups every time. It had failed to recognise the contribution of late Rajasekhar Reddy for bringing power to the party twice. When he died in helicopter crash, the party took three months to pay tributes to him. At the same time, it had put several restrictions on his bereaved family and even victimised the family members. His son was sent to jail. That was the greatest mistake that the Congress had committed.
Later, the Congress tried to disown Jaganmohan Reddy and dislodge him and his politics. It had even aligned with the Telugu Desam Party thinking that Jagan’s defeat would give a new life to the party. That was proved fatal for the Congress. It seems to have not learned a lesson even then. It is now still working against him and even ready to work with TDP, believing that Jagan’s defeat would help the party’s revival. There are strong admirers of Chandrababu Naidu in the Congress who love him than the Congress. It is because of such leaders the Congress had become a corpse in the State.
Now, the corpse would be headed by a leader, Pallam Raju, who could not get at least one corporator win the election in Kakinada. As there is none to head the party, the top leadership is likely to name him to carry forward the corpse promising a bright future for the people!
