AP government had come up with yet another new scheme to provide drinking and irrigation water across the State. The state government wants to provide protected drinking water through pipe connection to every household in the next three years. Besides, the government is also planning to provide irrigation water to every party of the state.
Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had announced the water grid programme at a whopping Rs 46,675 crore. The Asian Development Bank would fund Rs 2,500 crore for this new scheme aimed at quenching the thirsty.
The scheme would be rolled out in two phases, as per the chief minister, who announced it during his review with officials in the Secretariat. The first phase would have Rs 34,475 crore followed by the second phase at Rs 9,200 crore. The two phases would provide drinking water to 46,982 rural habitations and 99 urban habitations.
The state government is aiming at providing drinking water to every house by 2022. The scheme includes river linking, starting with Godavari linked to Krishna in the first phase. The chief minister told the officials to focus on the four Rayalaseema districts, besides Nellore and Prakasam districts where drinking water is a major issue.
The officials told the chief minister that drinking water is supplied through tankers for 6,267 habitations spread over Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Ananthapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts. The chief minister told the officials to ensure regular drinking water supply till next monsoon season. He also told them to gear up for the impending summer and ensure water is supplied to the parts of Palnadu area in Guntur district during this summer.
