The AP Cabinet had given green signal to the government to go ahead with its move of reverse tender in the Polavaram Project. The cabinet approval came closely with the Central government opposing the move and the State High Court questioning it. The cabinet had also authorised the State government to recover Rs 380 crore given to the contractor – Navayuga Group – towards mobilisation advance by the previous Telugu Desam Party government.
The cabinet’s approval, though a formality, gives more teeth to the State to fight the legal battle too in the High Court, besides the Central government. The contractor is making all out efforts to stop the government from going for the fresh tenders. The lobbying was such that the Ministers in the central government have given open statements against the government’s intentions. However, the government is standing firm and is set to go for reverse tendering.
The cabinet also withdrew the land given to the contractors of the Machilipatnam Port. The previous TDP government had given over 4,000 acres to the contractor to start the port work. However, even after three years, the contractor had failed to begin the work, the cabinet felt and decided to take over the lands from the contractors.
The cabinet had increased the wedding gift to the cross sections of the people, which was earlier introduced by the TDP government. However, the government had enhanced the gift money and the SCs and STs, who were paid Rs 45,000 will now get Rs 1 lakh. The cabinet also increased the money for the BCs and Minorities too.
The cabinet had rolled out the financial assistance to the own auto and taxi drivers. They would get Rs 10,000 per year from this Srirama Navami. The scheme was one of the key promises of Jaganmohan Reddy during his historical padayatra
