BJP in Jagan trap?

Ever since Jagan made an announcement about three capitals in the Assembly, BJP leaders in Andhra Pradesh lost their peace of mind. Some leaders said YSRCP government is implementing BJP agenda and claimed that it is their idea. However, subsequently some leaders demanded that Amaravati be retained as the capital. Thus BJP plunged into confusion. The party leaders could not take a united stand on the issue of three capitals. AP BJP president Kanna Lakshminarayana took one stand, Rajya Sabha member Sujana Chowdary took another route, BJP spokesman GVL Narasimha Rao had a different view, former chief secretary and now BJP leader IYR adopted another line while another BJP leader Soma Veerraju had some other stand. This is the situation in the party.

This has been the behavior of party leaders since the new government was formed. They created confusion not only among party rank and file but also among the people. People are unable to understand what is in the heart of BJP over the situation in the state. On the other hand it is said that BJP is losing the opportunity to derive political mileage on key political issues. BJP’s stand is that small states affect the development. From the beginning the party has taken the stand that there should be decentralization. BJP has been vocal on the issues like high court in Rayalaseema and development of north Andhra. However, ever since some key leaders of TDP joined BJP, the saffron party could not take a clear stand on issues. There is a feeling in a section of BJP leaders that since TDP is running the BJP from behind the screen, this is affecting party’s growth in AP. However, considering the requirements of party’s central leadership they are not in a position to open their mouth.

Sunil Deodhar, who was appointed as incharge of party affairs in AP, made hectic efforts to unite all leaders. However, in recent days he also lost the grip in the party. Since the leadership has given him other responsibilities, Sunil is said to be unable to focus on AP BJP. There is a talk that the high command which is keeping an eye on the situation will use his services if things become tough for the party. However, the manner in which the BJP leaders are conducting themselves has already done the damage to the party. The cadres are of the view that it is inevitable to take up repair works now.
