Actor Ali had finally landed in the Lotus Pond. He made several rounds to Amaravati. He met Telugu Desam Party supremo and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu several times during the last two months and had given enough indications that he would be joining the TDP soon. It was widely said that Ali would be the TDP candidate for Guntur West Assembly constituency. In fact, he had already registered his name in the voter list in Guntur West.
But, finally, Ali joined the Opposition YSR Congress in the presence of Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday. Though he said he would campaign for the party, sources close to Jaganmohan Reddy said that the party is planning to field the actor from Vijayawada West Assembly constituency. The YSR Congress chief is said to have his own assessment that former MLA Vellampalli Srinivas is not able to match the campaign and money of sitting MLA Jaleel Khan in the constituency. Though Jaleel Khan is not contesting this time and fielding his daughter, the TDP is taking the campaign intensively, while Vellampalli is not able to match this. It is here that the YSR Congress wants to field actor Ali here and promise some good position to Vellampalli after the elections.
Interestingly, actor Ali is more close to Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan rather than Chandrababu Naidu and Jaganmohan Reddy. It was initially said that Ali would be the Jana Sena’s candidate for Rajahmundry Lok Sabha constituency. In fact, Ali hails from this city and it was widely said that Ali would go with Pawan Kalyan. However, when he met Chandrababu Naidu, there were questions about his politics and his friendship. Now, after joining the YSR Congress, Ali had said that his personal relations, particularly friendship with Pawan Kalyan, are different from politics. Well, it is to be seen if he emerges successful in the elections, if contests as speculated. There are a good number of Telugu film actors who are currently associated with the TDP and the YSR Congress. The team with the TDP is comparatively strong with more actors and actresses working for the party.
