The fear of ACB has gripped the government employees in AP. No one knows when and which government office will be raided by the officials of the anti-graft department. After Chief Minister Jagan expressed his dissatisfaction over the functioning of ACB, this department has suddenly become active. The raids being conducted by ACB officials from Anantapur to Srikakulam have created fear among the corrupt. Especially the raids are targeted at the municipal offices.
There are allegations that during last five years Chandrababu government opened the gates for corruption. Except once in a while raids, nothing was done against the corrupt. The people were unable to get their work done at any office without greasing the palms of the officials. Especially the corruption was rampant in the town planning wing of the municipal department. It was an open secret that from corporator to minister, everybody was working at his whims and fancies. However, keeping in view the ensuing municipal elections, Jagan government decided to put an end to the old system. As part of this, it decided to use ACB to crack the whip. The government is making strong effort not only to show that it is transparent but also to clear the image of corrupt government and wash the blot on Jagan.
ACB recently conducted raids on corporations and municipalities in Kadapa, Ongole, Tirupati, Nellore, Anantapur, Guntur and Kadiri areas. These raids were mainly conducted on the town planning wing. This triggered fear in the municipal department. The ACB already net the big fish in disproportionate income cases in various parts of the state and sent the accused to jail. People say that if this momentum continues for some more time, changes will definitely come.
