One of the recent decisions of chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is now targeting him for a negative reason. He is being criticised for his decision to appoint a hard-core Telangana activist and journalist, Devulapalli Amar, as AP government’s national media and inter-state relations advisor. The AP government had given him a cabinet rank post for his loyalties to the leadership.
Amar, who as a strong leader of the Indian Journalists Union over the years and had greater contacts with the media at the national level may be the right choice for Jaganmohan Reddy to name him for the top post. His loyalties as a programmer in the Sakshi TV too might have helped Jaganmohan Reddy to reach out to the people in his 9 year-long political career that was full of battles and hardships.
Jaganmohan Reddy also require a strong media person to help him in building his image in the national media, for which Amar suits well with his wide contacts as IJU leader for more than two decades. As a politician, Jaganmohan Reddy is right in picking up the right man for the right job. But, the strong anti-Andhra Pradesh leanings of Amar are a big question in his delivery abilities or intentions. He is seen as anti-Andhra Pradesh activist and that gives a greater chance for Jaganmohan Reddy’s critics to target him.
The chief minister had told the senior officers to look out for efficient people to be taken on deputation. Senior IPS officer, Stephen Ravindra, is one such, among others, who were handpicked by Jaganmohan Reddy to deliver his corruption-free governance. This way, he is justified in picking up Telangana activist Amar as national media advisor. However, it is to be seen how far the AP people accept Amar’s appointment particularly with the sentiments continue to dominate politics. The pain of unjust bifurcation is still haunting the people here and Amar’s appointment is set to aggravate the pain. It is for Jaganmohan Reddy to cool the people with better performance.
