The YSR Congress president and chief minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had cleared two names for the MLC posts in the State. As three posts fell vacant in the Legislative Council following resignation of its two MLCs, who were elected to the Assembly and one from the Telugu Desam Party, the elections to these vacancies are scheduled for this week. Alla Kalikrishna Srinivas (Nani) and Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy from the YSR Congress have resigned following their election to the Assembly. In Telugu Desam Party, Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy had resigned following his election to the Assembly.
Given the present strength of the YSR Congress in the Assembly, the party is sure of winning all the three seats, which were to be elected by the MLAs. Jaganmohan Reddy, who had inaugurated the party state headquarters at Tadepalli on Saturday, had cleared the names of Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and former IPS officer Mohmmad Iqbal for the two posts. He held a prolonged discussion with party senior leaders Vijayasai Reddy, Y V Subba Reddy and Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy in the party office where he finalised the candidatures of both Venkata Ramana and Iqbal and announced the names.
The YSR Congress chief is still working on the selection of candidate for the third seat. Sources in the party say that the candidature of Challa Ramakrishna Reddy is being considered for the third seat. There are several others who are aspiring for the MLC post in the party. Jaganmohan Reddy had promised the MLC post and the berth in the Cabinet for Marri Rajasekhar from Chilakaluripet, who sacrificed the seat for Vidudala Rajani, who won the seat this time. Jaganmohan Reddy had also promised the seat for Amalapuram former MP, P Ravindra Babu. However, sources say that Ramakrishna Reddy has better chances to grab the third seat
