Jagan counters Naidu’s campaign on TRS pact

YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy responded to the continued criticism of the ruling Telugu Desam Party that the YSR Congress had aligned with the Bharatiya Janata Party and Telangana Rastra Samithi. TDP supremo and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and his leaders have been alleging that the TRS is helping the YSR Congress in the elections to defeat the TDP and derail the development in Andhra Pradesh. The TDP chief had been saying that the TRS had hatched a conspiracy against AP and the YSR Congress had fell into the trap.

Responding to this allegation Jaganmohan Reddy dared the TDP leaders to prove the charge. He said he had been working to build healthy relations with the neighbouring State for development, while Chandrababu Naidu is trying to create rift between the two Telugu States for his political gains. “No State in the country would like to have a fighting relationship with the neighbouring State. Only Chandrababu Naidu is looking for unhealthy relationship with the neighbouring Telangana. This would stall the development of the state in future. The Telangana is the upper state for Krishna and Godavari rivers. If we don’t have healthy relations with that State, we would be having problems in sharing the river waters, as the undivided AP had such problems with Karnataka and Maharastra in the past,” Jaganmohan Reddy explained.

While brushing aside the allegations of political alliance between the YSR Congress and the TRS, Jaganmohan Reddy said his relationship with the TRS was only to seek their support for the special category status demand. “Together, we have 42 MPs in the Telugu States. If we stand united, no government can ignore our demand and no government at the Centre can dare to deny special category status to AP,” Jaganmohan Reddy said. He further asserted that AP required the support of the TS government in its fight for the SCS. “It becomes mere impossible for AP to get the SCS if the neighbouring States oppose the demand. It is for this reason, the YSR Congress is maintaining good relationship with the TRS,” he asserted.

Jaganmohan Reddy blamed Chandrababu Naidu for maligning political campaign on the YSR Congress. “Chandrababu Naidu aligns with Congress and other parties and wants them to support the SCS demand. But, if the YSR Congress does the same, he finds conspiracy. This is the double game that Naidu is known for,” Jaganmohan Reddy said clearing the air on the YSR Congress party’s relationship with the TRS.
