Jagan faults Naidu on AP growth rate

YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy found fault with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for his tall claims on the State’s growth rate. Referring to Chandrababu Naidu’s speech at the NITI Aayog where the Chief Minister had projected State’s growth rate at 10.5 per cent, the YSR Congress chief said the TDP chief was playing a double game in politics.

“When we want the help from the State after bifurcation and stake claim for the special category status, where is the justification if we claim 10.5 per cent growth rate to the State? According to Chandrababu Naidu the State is ahead of several States in the country in the growth rate and there was no need for the Centre to consider special category status or special assistance to the State. The other States also don’t see the reason to support our demand for special category status,” Jaganmohan Reddy said.

He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu was claiming big and rich on one side and seeking a helping hand on the other side, which is a double standard. He is right in his criticism as the special incentives are given to the backward States and not the forward and developed States. The Special Category Status is given to the most backward States and not to a state like Andhra Pradesh, where the growth rate is 10.5 per cent, ahead of several other States.

Chandrababu Naidu, like never in the past, is seen making confusing statements in this term. He speaks for hours about the injustice done to the State in the bifurcation and a helping hand required from the Central government. He speaks about the revenue deficit to the State and wants special financial assistance to the State. But, in no time, he talks about the double digit growth, global cities, world class infrastructure and much more that keeps that State next to the developed countries like Japan and Singapore. This contradiction is what the politicians and bureaucrats fail to understand in considering the demands like special category status.

“When the State is on par with Singapore and Japan and when its economy is rising with double digit growth and the infrastructure is world class, where is the need for special category status,” is the question that the bureaucrats ask whenever they are encountered with the injustice done to the State or a raw deal given to the State by the BJP in the last four years.

If Naidu can answer this contradicting statements and claims, special category status will come and people will back him too.
