Jagan gets in touch with his father’s friends

The battle lines are being drawn in Andhra Pradesh, exactly a year ahead of the next elections. The political heat is set to extend the summer for the next 12 months. The ruling TDP had locked horns with the BJP in the State. Jana Sena is beating the TDP and media severely exposing the nexus.

Now, it is the turn of YSR Congress to take on its rivals. It looks like Jagan Mohan Reddy is more interested to strengthen his army rather than focus on his rivals. He is going ahead with this strategy.

Starting with taking former MLA Yalamanchili Ravi on the first day of his tour in Krishna district, Jagan Mohan Reddy had set his eyes on a few big families in Krishna and Guntur districts. Besides, he is also looking forward to some leaders who were close to his father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. He had laid his hands on former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, who is now with the BJP. Kanna was a strong supporter of YS Rajasekhar Reddy and was a close associate of Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, who was patronised by Rajasekhar Reddy in 1980s. That way, Kanna enjoys greater support in the Kapu community, almost equal to that of Mudragada Padmanabham. The entry of Kanna into YSR Congress on April 25 will be a major blow to the ruling TDP which had won the 2014 elections with their votes.

After Kanna, the YSR Congress chief is also extending his arms to leaders like Kondru Murali Mohan, Vatti Vasantha Kumar, Pinipe Viswaroop, Chintha Mohan and a few others who were closely associated with Rajasekhar Reddy in the good olden days. There are also strong rumours that leaders like G V Harsha Kumar and Mudragada Padmbanabham would also join YSR Congress, though little late.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning to rope in more families. Former home minister in NTR first cabinet, Vasantha Nageswara Rao’s son Vasantha Krishna Prasad is in queue and he might join the YSR Congress in the next one or two months. There is another family from Gannavaram area which is also ready to join Jagan Mohan Reddy before the next elections.

While the TDP leaders are confident of winning the next elections too, there is wide talk that exodus will begin from TDP to the YSR Congress soon and that would cripple the TDP reducing its winning chances.
