YSR Congress Party chief Jagan is moving cautiously. It has been nearly seven months since he launched Prajasankalp Padyatra. After completing the padyatra in 10 districts, he has entered 11th district. Currently Prajasankalp padyatra is being conducted in Visakhapatnam district. However, it is significant that after crossing Prakasam district, Jagan did not announce any candidate. Earlier, he had announced some candidates. During padyatra and also at public meetings, Jagan is keeping constituency coordinators with him but after crossing Prakasam district he did not announce any candidate.
Jagan had first announced Narayana Reddy’s wife Sridevi as the candidate for Pattikonda constituency in Kurnool district. Later, he announced that from Kuppam constituency in Chittoor district, Chandramouli will be the party candidate. Subsequently, Jagan declared that from Darsi constituency in Prakasam district, Badam Madhava Reddy will contest on the party ticket. At public meetings, he appealed to voters to ensure their success in the coming elections. No major problems arose with the announcement of candidates for Pattikonda and Kuppam constituencies. However, party received the feedback that declaring Badam Madhava Reddy as the candidate in Darsi constituency in Prakasam district has caused some damage to the party.
Buchepalli Shivaprasad Reddy’s family still has the grip on Darsi constituency. He is continuing as YSRCP leader. Since he had announced that he will not contest the coming elections, Jagan declared Badam Madhava Reddy as the party candidate. However, Shivaprasad Reddy later changed his heart. He held series of meetings with party workers in the constituency and his followers to discuss the future course of action. It is being said Buchepalli is getting ready for the coming elections. That’s why there is no guarantee that in the coming elections Madhava Reddy will get YSR Congress ticket. YSRCP sources say if Shivaprasad Reddy agrees to contest he is likely to get the ticket.
In view of the developments in Darsi constituency, Jagan is not announcing party candidates. He did not announce candidates anywhere in Krishna, West Godavari and East Godavari districts. However, at public meetings he is keeping the constituency incharges with him. This has become a topic of discussion in the party. Leaders are saying that it would be good to announce candidates for constituencies where there are no differences. Jagan is not announcing candidates even in constituencies which are currently held by the party. There are speculations that Jagan is maintaining silence on the issue on the advise of YSRCP election strategist Prashant Kishore in view of the developments in Darsi constituency.
