Jaganmohan Reddy meets Shah, to meet Modi today

Jaganmohan Reddy met Amit Shah

AP Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday noon. Jaganmohan Reddy is expected to stay in the national capital for two days before he arrives here to attend the Assembly session to be held for two days from Monday to thank Governor ESL Narasimhan for his address to the both Houses of Legislature.

During his meeting with Amit Shah, the AP Chief Minister had renewed his appeal for the implementation of all the promises made to the State at the time of bifurcation, with special mention to the Special Category Status. The sources say that Jaganmohan Reddy had submitted a representation to the Union Home Minister on pending issues to be given to the State from the Centre and to be distributed between the two Telugu States. The bifurcation process is yet to completed between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. As the Governor mentioned some time back in Delhi that the bifurcation between the two States could not be completed in the last five years, it is now moving on the fast track.

There are some contentious issues between the two states, which are to be resolved amicably. But, with the two chief ministers locking horns in the last five years, no attempt could be made to settle these issues. Now that the two chief ministers are working in friendly relations and the Central government’s intervention is also required in some issues, the AP Chief Minister had sought the intervention of the Union Home Minister.

Jaganmohan Reddy had also requested the Home Minister to convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give special category status to the State. As he is also scheduled to meet Modi this afternoon at the NITI Aayog meeting, the chief minister will submit a representation to the Prime Minister seeking special category status to the State.

The representation focuses on the need to develop Andhra Pradesh on par with Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and AP should have its capital like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. It is to be seen how the Prime Minister would react to this representation and Jaganmohan Reddy’s requests.
