Chief Minister Y S Jagan mohan Reddy had ordered probe into the Nellore rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy’s episode in which a case was registered against the MLA. Japan mohan Reddy, who had returned from Delhi tour late on Saturday evening, had summoned DGP D Gautham Sawang and discussed about the issue in which Venkatachalam MPDO Sarala had lodged a complaint of assault on her.
The MPDO held a protest at the police station alleging that the police were not recording her statement and taking her complaint against the MLA. Following this, the police registered cases against the MLA and his supporters for allegedly harassing her. Though the MLA had denied the charges the police registered a complaint against the MLA and his supporters.
On his return from Delhi, Jagan mohan Reddy expressed serious concern over the incident. Despite the MLA being loyal to Jagan mohan Reddy for several years, the chief minister had taken serious note of the complaints against the legislator and said that he would not allow such things to happen in the State.
The issue took serious turn with the social media trolling the incident and equating it with the incident of the then TDP MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar assault on MRO Vanajakshi. Even Chandrababu Naidu had reacted to the incident condemning it, while the TDP’s social media activists trolled it all through the day demanding action against Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy.
The chief minister had directed the DGP to probe into the issue and get facts. “I would not tolerate such incidents. If the MLA is guilty, take action against him,” the chief minister told the DGP. He further told the DGP to act free as per the law and should not entertain any political pressure. “Let the law take its own course,” he told the DGP and the police. He wanted the police not to accept any political intervention in taking action against the persons in such cases.
It is to be seen what would happen to Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, who is also facing a similar charge of assault of a journalist in Nellore.
