YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy had finally shifted his base from Hyderabad to the new capital Amaravati. He inaugurated his party office in the presence of thousands of the party workers and dozens of his party leaders. He also performed housewarming ceremony for his new house built adjacent to the party state headquarters.
The buildings were constructed in a housing project taken up by the party former leader Ghattamaneni Adiseshagiri Rao, who shifted to the ruling Telugu Desam Party recently. Interestingly, several of the YSR Congress leaders, including some MPs and MLAs have purchased houses in this project, while Jaganmohan Reddy purchased a house and the party office.
With the new house and party office inaugurated, Jaganmohan Reddy will start his activities from the new capital. He had admitted Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan and former minister Daggubati Venkateswara Rao’s son Hitesh Chenchuram into the party on the first day. By shifting his base to Amaravati, Jaganmohan Reddy had cleared all doubts about his plans to shift the capital from Amaravati to elsewhere. The ruling TDP had been campaigning that Jaganmohan Reddy would shift the capital to Donakonda in Prakasam district, where the YSR Congress leaders have purchased lands anticipating the new capital location here. The TDP had been spreading the rumours that Jaganmohan Reddy, who supported the Undavalli and Penumaka farmers for not giving their lands for the capital, would shift the capital if voted to power. The TDP wanted the people to vote for the party to continue the development works for the capital. However, now with Jaganmohan Reddy shifting his base, this campaign lost its credibility.
Meanwhile, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu criticised Jaganmohan Reddy for shifting his base only after building a huge palace at Tadepalli. Naidu said that Jaganmohan Reddy lives only in palaces and he had palaces at Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pulivendula. The new palace at Tadepalli in the capital is the fourth palace owned by Jaganmohan Reddy. The chief minister further said that the YSR Congress is not a peoples’ party, but a palace party.
