Jagan to announce sops to farmers today

Celebrating his father and late chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s birth anniversary, chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy is all set to make some key announcements to the farmers on Monday. He is also scheduled to address his first public meeting after swearing-in on May 30, as chief minister. He would address this public meeting at Jammalamadugu, the hot bed of his rivals.

Jaganmohan Reddy would fly from Gannavaram to Kadapa airport in the morning and offer prayers at his father’s memorial at Idupulapaya. He would then visit Sri Hanuman temple at Gondi village before reaching the public meeting venue at Jammalamadugu. The State government had made elaborate security arrangements for the chief minister’s visit to Idupulapaya, Gondi and Jammalamadugu on the day. The public meeting venue is under the surveillance of the police who have been guarding the venue since yesterday.

The State government is celebrating Rajasekhar Reddy’s birthday as farmers’ day across the State. Arrangements have been made for the ministers, officials and the legislators to join the celebrations. The chief minister, along with Minister for Agriculture Kurasala Kannababu and others, would launch the State wide celebrations at the Jammalamadugu public meeting. The chief minister is likely to announce the Rythu Bharosa programme for the farmers besides other issues like creation of price stabilisation fund for the market intervention at Rs 3,000 crore, as promised by him in the election manifesto.

The State government is also launching the revised pensions of Rs 2250 on the day across the State. Jaganmohan Reddy had promised to increase the pension to Rs 3000 over the next four years and had accordingly increased it by adding Rs 250 for the year. The increased amount of Rs 250 would be added every year till the pension touches Rs 3000 mark.

Jaganmohan Reddy had also constituted agriculture mission with experts from the field who included some scientists, journalists and the farmers’ representatives. The mission already had its first meeting and resolved to be the advisory body for the chief minister on the agriculture sector development. All these issues are to be part of chief minister’s public address on the day. It is to be seen what more new schemes he would announce on the day!
