Jagan to roll out online registrations from Nov. 1st

Chief Minister Y S Jagan mohan Reddy, who seems to be very particular on providing graft-free administration, had decided to roll out yet another initiative. This time it is from the registration department, which deals with the property registrations at the offices of the sub-registrars across the State.

The new system would do away with the document writers who have been reaping money from the people at the time of registrations. Interestingly, this is the document writers who collect the 2 per cent share of the property registration value to be paid as bribe to the staff and the sub-registrar at the time of registration. The bribe is that conveniently goes into the pockets of the officer and the staff.

The previous Telugu Desam Party had introduced online system for the transport department, which deals with the vehicle registrations and the issuing of licences, where the middlemen play key role. Here too, the middlemen, who were called transport agents, collect the bribe share of the officers and pay them at their convenience. Though these agents were dropped and the online was introduced some three years ago, these agents still surface at every registration. The online registration is not so easy for a common man either to get the vehicle registered or registration transferred or even the license issued.

The fate of the property registrations too is set to be the same. The document writers will continue to have their say over the stamps and registration department. The government is planning to have 16 model documents that people can choose for registration. While the government claims that people can fill one of these model documents after duly filling them online and go for online registration, like in the transport department, it is not going to be easy for a common man to get things done, as the department had been a strange place for them for generations.

It is to be seen how the State government would roll out this from designated day, November 1, and do away with the established document writers.
