Former minister and Bharatiya Janata Party AP unit president Kanna Lakshminarayana took to the streets of Guntur on Monday begging with a bowl. Lakshminarayana, accompanied by dozens of the party leaders and activists, went around the streets begging people for money.
While it is not known how much he was able to collect and what is that he is going to do with that money, he said the begging was to support the construction workers who have lost their bread for the past four months due to failure of the government in sand supply. He said thousands of the construction workers across the state have lost their bread and were starving along with the families.
He found fault with the State government for its failure to supply the sand even after coming up with new sand policy. He said that the construction workers have waited patiently for September 5 for the government to roll out the new sand policy. Though the sand policy was declared on September 5 as promised, sand is not available even today, for the construction workers to earn their bread, the BJP chief said.
Kanna Lakshminarayana, a staunch supporter of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, was once almost ready to join the YSR Congress from BJP, just before the elections. He had prepared to huge hoardings of Jaganmohan Reddy and the YSR Congress at his residence in Guntur and were almost ready to quit BJP. It was at that point of time, the BJP leadership had brought pressure on him and appointed him as president of the AP unit.
Since then, as head of the BJP, Lakshminarayana had been going hard against the YSR Congress and its leader Jaganmohan Reddy. In fact, to some extent, Kanna could give some life to the BJP, which, otherwise, is a foreign party for the people here. It is to be seen if he would be able to build the party as strong as he expects, for the next election, to win at least a couple of seats
