MIM goes soft on KCR but not ready for alliance

The MIM, which is dominant in the twin cities, particularly in the old city of Hyderabad is going soft towards the ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi. The MIM brothers – Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi – are talking in a soft tone indicating that they are not a threat to the ruling TRS. They are also not with the Congress, as expected.

Though the MIM brothers seem to have differences on their approach towards the TRS, it is clear that they are looking at the TRS as a better option than the Congress. However, they are not ready for any alliance with the TRS too.

Akbaruddin, at one point of time, had compared his MIM with Karnataka’s Janata Dal (Secular) which had come to power with just 35 seats in post-poll alliance with the Congress. When Janta Dal (Secular) can form the government with the small numbers in the Assembly, why not MIM in Telangana? was Akbaruddin’s optimistic question.

However, his elder brother Asaduddin was clear in his political strategy. He was not expecting the MIM to play the JD(S) in Telangana. He gave a clear edge to the TRS in the next elections claiming that going for early polls needed courage which the TRS chief KCR has. He said that KCR will retain the power despite the opposition parties giving a united fight.

The MIM has seven MLAs in the 119 member Telangana Assembly and is sure of retaining the number. Perhaps with its soft approach towards the TRS might help in winning a couple of more seats too and would remain a strong force in the State politics.

On the contrary, the BJP is going weak this time when compared to the previous elections. The BJP had won 5 MLAs in the 2014 elections and this time, it may not retain them given the anti-BJP and anti-Modi sentiments spreading fast across the State.
