There are more surprises in the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the Opposition YSR Congress Party ahead of the April 11 general election. The defections are unbelievable giving some rude shock to the parties as well as the supporters of the leaders. Even people are feeling uncomfortable with the defections in some cases.

Vijayawada’s former MLA Vangaveeti Radha Krishna, who had given a clean chit to the TDP in his father late Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga’s murder, had joined the party in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. When Ranga was murdered on M G Road in the city in 1986, Radha Krishna was a child and everything that is related to his father is told to him by someone or the other. He was not a direct witness to what his father was in Vijayawada politics and faction fights. But, when he gave a clean chit to the TDP in his father’s murder, it did not go well down the line.

TDP’s MP Thota Narasimham and his family members have joined the YSR Congress. Though the defection was expected long ago, it got delayed for different reasons. It happened finally on Wednesday. This changes the political equations in the Godavari districts, particularly among the Kapu voters.

There was another surprise in the YSR Congress on Wednesday, with businessman, Potluri Vara Prasad, joining the party. It is said that he would be the YSR Congress candidate for Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency. Potluri Vara Prasad, who is popularly known as PVP, is a known friend of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan. When Pawan Kalyan launched the Jana Sena in 2014, PVP had given a footage for the actor in Vijayawada politics and was said to be the party’s first candidate for 2019 elections. However, he gave a slip to the Jana Sena.

PVP is also a close associate of Vijayawada’s prestigious educational institutions – Siddhartha Academy – which is supporting the ruling Telugu Desam Party. In fact, a huge amount of money was recovered from the Siddhartha Academy premises in the 2014 elections, which was said to be the TDP’s money for elections. The Academy is now set to go to any extent to help Chandrababu Naidu come back to power. But, PVP’s move to the YSR Congress and his candidature for Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency is set to cause greater disadvantage to this institution as PVP owns an engineering college in the city under the management of the Academy.
