Telugu Desam Party supremo and AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is not worried about his own party’s defeat in Telangana elections. Though the TDP had contested 13 Assembly seats, it ended up winning just two seats. The Congress-led alliance, in which the TDP was a partner, was defeated very badly and that humiliating defeat is not worrying Chandrababu Naidu, as he talks.
What brought him joy was the defeat of the BJP in the three northern States – Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. The Congress had won these three States pushing the ruling BJP out of power. The Congress is now working on naming the chief minister candidates for these three states. The Congress saw its victory here as the victory over the BJP’s misrule and corruption.
More than the Congress ranks and particularly Rahul Gandhi, who is aspiring to be the next prime minister of the country replacing Narendra Modi, the TDP chief is celebrating the defeat of the BJP. He claims that the BJP’s defeat in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh was possible because of the awareness that he could create against the BJP at the national level. He finds his contribution to the anti-BJP and anti-Narendra Modi campaign, which had caused the defeat of the BJP.
Chandrababu Naidu is also celebrating the crushing defeat of the BJP in Telangana. The BJP had contested 118 Assembly seats out of the 119 seats and had won just 1 seat in Hyderabad. When the BJP went to the polls in 2014 in alliance with the TDP, it had won 5 Assembly seats. The TDP chief claims that the BJP’s victory in the last elections was only because of the strength of the TDP. According to him, the BJP in Telangana cannot win even a single MLA seat on its own and it was proved this time.
More than his defeat, this is what keeps Chandrababu Naidu to move on. He had told his party men the other day that they should work further hard to defeat the BJP in the next elections in every State. He had directed his party MPs in Delhi to grab the media attention for their protests both inside and outside the Parliament and that should be a big blow for the BJP’s electoral prospects
