Telugu Desam Party supremo and former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu seems to have found some reason to launch yet another round of agitation across the country. He held a nation-wide protest before the 2019 general election, rallying all non-BJP leaders together. He held series of opposition conclaves and had even aligned with the Congress.
That efforts have failed to yield any positive result for him or the leaders who rallied with him. The BJP had come back to power with greater majority. In AP, Chandrababu Naidu tasted a humiliating defeat with just 23 MLAs winning from his side.
Now, five months in the opposition, or rather out of power, Chandrababu Naidu is moving uncomfortable. He is feeling like a fish out of water and seems to be impatient to sit in opposition. Interestingly, Chandrababu Naidu and most of the TDP leaders in the State and even outside, feel that the power was stolen from them. None of the TDP leaders are accepting that they were defeated by the people in the election. They feel that the power was stolen from them and should be given back to them.
In this line of thought, Chandrababu Naidu is planning to launch a nation-wide protest against the YSR Congress government. The issue he found is the government’s decision to give powers of filing defamation cases against media to the secretaries of the departments. He opposes it now, unmindful of his similar actions against Sakshi group while he was the chief minister.
He is able to muster support from the national media for this decision of the government. The national media is opposing the move as a greater threat to the freedom of expression. Chandrababu Naidu has greater connections in the national media because of the best ways that he had implemented to patronise them when he was in power. He is still able to influence the national media and with that support Chandrababu Naidu is planning to use the national platform for his revival.
