Naidu talks politics on the side-lines of cabinet meet

Telugu Desam Party supremo and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu made some political comments on the side-lines of the cabinet meeting. He tried to infuse confidence among the Ministers and the TDP leaders that the party is set for a big victory in the April 11 polling and May 23 counting. He claimed that all the four surveys that he had done before and after the polling have given clear edge to the party this time.

The result would be a big surprise to everyone, he told the Ministers. He further said that the TDP would get better results this time than the 2014 elections. He claimed that people have voted for the continuation of the developmental programs and the welfare initiatives. He had pinned all his hopes on the Pasupu-Kumkuma program, through which he gave Rs 10,000 to each of the women members of the self-help groups. He also gave some financial support to the farmers, unemployed youth and the aged persons in different forms.

On the development side, the projects like new capital Amaravati, Polavaram and the industries to the state were on the top of the TDP’s election campaign and Chandrababu Naidu saw a positive vote for all these programmes.

The TDP chief also made some interesting comments on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s electoral prospects. He was sure of the BJP’s defeat. However, if the NDA gets majority, he predicted change of leadership before forming the government. He said that the BJP too was ready to drop Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a second term and might favour Rajnath Singh or Nitin Gadkhari as a replacement if the BJP and NDA fall short of the numbers.

The TDP chief is planning for a bigger role in the national politics, particularly in the formation of the next government at the Centre. It is for this reason, he had cancelled the party’s annual meeting – Mahanadu – this year and had asked the party rank and file to celebrate the party founder N T Rama Rao’s birthday on May 28.
