Telugu Desam Party is going to people. It started state-wide yatra on Wednesday to highlight the government’s failures. TDP, which suffered crushing defeat in the recent elections, launched the yatra to win the soon to be held local body elections. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu feels that the party can win the local body elections only by fighting over public issues and by standing by the people.
TDP president Chandrababu discussed praja chaitanya yatra at a meeting with key leaders of the party. Chandrababu has directed that the chaitanya yatras be undertaken in all 175 Assembly constituencies. He decided to undertake the yatras for 45 days. As per the programme designed by the TDP, Chandrababu will address one praja chaitanya yatra in one constituency every week.
TDP believes that by staging protests over sand shortage it has already come closer to people. The state government is now conducting a survey in the name of Navasakam to weed out bogus pensions and ration cards. This has created fears among people. TDP is looking to take advantage of this. TDP has taken strong exception to the government scrapping white ration cards issued to the poor. It decided to fight over the issue and stand by the people.
On the first day, Chandrbabu Naidu participated in the praja chaitanya yatra at Marturu. TDP leaders are making clear that their fight will continue till the government restores the cancelled ration cards and pensions. In addition to this Chandrababu directed the TDP leaders to explain to people that due to the decisions taken after YSRCP came to power resulted in a halt to the investment and the industry is going back. It remains to be seen as to what extent the TDP will succeed in its efforts.
