The Congress AP president N Raghuveera Reddy had come out with a piece of advice to the leaders in the State. He had asked the heads of all political parties to back AICC president Rahul Gandhi either in the pre-poll or post-poll scenario to get the special category status for the State. Raghuveera Reddy said that Rahul Gandhi had promised to give his first signature on granting SCS to the state once he assumes charge as Prime Minister after the election. The AICC chief had promised to implement the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 letter and spirit and that would be an added advantage to the State.
The ruling Telugu Desam Party, Opposition YSR Congress and Jana Sena are fighting for the SCS and other bifurcation benefits to the State. The TDP, which had gone back on the SCS demand and settled for the special package too is now fighting for the status. The YSR Congress had been fighting for the SCS from the beginning and had made its MPs quit Parliament on the same issue. The Jana Sena too had opposed the special package to the State and had been insisting on the special category status.
The Congress and its allies are giving a tough fight to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA in the elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is finding the things going tough for the second time and the situation is giving some hopes for the Congress to take advantage of the situation in forming the next government at the Centre. The Congress is also looking at the non-NDA parties to get support for Rahul Gandhi and his UPA this time. It is here that the TDP, the YSR Congress and the Jana Sena stand, as all the three parties are outside the NDA.
The TDP is working against the NDA and Narendra Modi this time and there are chances of the party backing the Congress after the elections. Now, there is a scope of the YSR Congress emerging victorious in the election with a handful of MP seats on its account, which are also required for the Congress to stop Narendra Modi. Though Jana Sena is not set for any victory, its voice is also required to stop Modi and help Rahul to take over. It is in this backdrop, Congress president Raghuveera Reddy had asked these leaders to support Rahul Gandhi in the post-election scenario.
However, it is to be seen if these parties join hands with the Congress, keeping aside their political rivalry in the State, just for the special category status cause.
