Congress president Rahul Gandhi is going harder and tougher against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As the first phase of polling is completed and the second phase is getting ready, the Congress president, who is projecting himself as the right alternative to Narendra Modi, is found very selective in hurling criticism on the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the election.
Giving a rude shock to the BJP and Narendra Modi, the Congress president asked the people to think why all the cheaters in the country have Modi as their last name. He tried to convince people that Narendra Modi is not different from Lalith Modi or Nirav Modi, who are accused of financial fraud and have fled the country. Rahul Gandhi had been saying that Narendra Modi is supporting only the rich and that too the cheaters or robbers of the nation. While Modi says he is the Chowkidar (watchman) of the nation, Rahul says that Modi is Chowkidar for the cheaters. He had even said that the Chowkidar is a Chor (thief).
The “Chowkidar Chor hai” statement of Rahul Gandhi is penetrating deeper into the voters along with “Chowkidar” slogan of the BJP and Narendra Modi. Now, adding some spice to the campaigning, Rahul Gandhi had asked the people to think why all the corrupt and accused persons have Modi as their last name. This statement of the Congress president is likely to have a strong adverse impact on the BJP’s electoral prospects.
The BJP had faced several adverse results in the recent past. The party had lost the three major states, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, from its pocket to the Congress. There is not much change in the people from the Assembly elections in these three States, to the Parliament elections now. The vote, for sure, is going to be against the BJP in these three States and that would cause major fall in the BJP’s majority from 2014, where the party had absolute majority.
It is to be seen now how Narendra Modi and Amit Shah would lead the party to victory this time too against this adverse situation. The Modi-Shah combine is also facing some resentment from within the party ranks for ignoring the party’s top leaders, L K Advani and M M Joshi. The traditional vote bank and cadre of the BJP are not happy with Modi-Shah for keeping these two grand old leaders out of the race now. This might also prove to be a disaster for the BJP leaders this time, in addition to Rahul Gandhi’s aggressive and abusive campaign.
