In a surprise development, Tamil film hero Rajnikanth found Lord Krishna and warrior Arjuna in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, he did not clarify who is Krishna and who is Arjuna. He left that to be decided by Modi and Shah themselves.
The film actor, who is planning for his political entry for the 2021 general elections in Tamil Nadu, met Amit Shah in Chennai on Sunday. He congratulated the Union Home Minister for the decision on Jammu and Kashmir and said that the integration of the border state with the rest of the country would end the decade-old problem. The State is now under the control of the nation and it can keep a check on the terror activities. The infiltration of terrorist forces to the country could also be stopped from now, he felt.
The actor also pointed out that the decision to withdraw Article 370 was a daring move by the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. He wanted the government to take such bold decisions on core issues, that have been a cause of disturbance to the nation for all these years. The long pending and key issues are to be settled with firm hand, Rajnikanth said and congratulated the Home Minister for the bold move.
Besides Rajnikanth, the ruling AIADMK also backed the Central government on withdrawing Article 370, while the opposition DMK and MNM president and actor Kamal Hassan opposed it. Kamal Hassan, a co-star of Rajnikanth, opposed the withdrawal of Article 370 and feared that it would lead to further disturbance in the border state. He felt that the government should have held consultations before taking a decision. There was no democracy in the government when the decision was taken, he observed.
The DMK had joined the Congress to vote against the Jammu and Kashmir Bill withdrawing Article 370 in both Houses of Parliament. However, the bill was passed with comfortable majority first in Rajya Sabha and later in Lok Sabha with the strategy followed by Modi-Shah combine.
