Sunday was some good day for Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and his YSR Congress Party. The day had given him a clear edge in the State Assembly elections by various exit polls. But, for one, which was sponsored by former Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, all psephology agencies have predicted a big win for the YSR Congress and Jaganmohan Reddy. The victory too is ranging from 110 seats to 130 seats in a 175 Assembly. This, if becomes a reality, would be a big and unquestionable victory for Jaganmohan Reddy.
Jaganmohan Reddy had challenged the powers that be and launched his own political outfit in 2010. He had been all alone in the decade long battle for political survival. He was jailed for 16 months on various corruption charges, a political conspiracy by the Congress. He was abused by the Congress, heckled by the Telugu Desam Party, every day in the last one decade of his political career.
At every point of time, the rivals have tried to fix him, stop him from moving forward. There were several attempts to weaken him. His three MPs were taken. His 23 MLAs were robbed. He was not given a chance to speak in the Assembly. He was not given a house in the capital. He was not given exemption from attending the courts every Friday, even when he took up marathon walk from Idupulapaya to Itchapuram in 2018.
It looked like, going by the exit polls, good days are ahead for this young leader. The troubled period is going to end for him this week, particularly when the votes are counted on May 23, Thursday, just three days away from now. If the projection of the exit polls becomes a reality, it means that his hard work against all odds is paid.
It is to be seen how far away or rather how close, he is placed to the power, a dream or a target that he had set 10 years ago.
